Chemo today
Grace has Chemo today. She has been getting two forms of chemo put directly in her Port in her chest every 10 days. The appointments take 3 to 4 hours because we always have to wait on her blood chemistry to make sure that she's not to low to administer chemo. She receives Vincristine and Methotrexate-two very strong forms of chemo. It usually hits her pretty hard for about three to five days, though predominately in the middle of the night. She often wakes up screaming with pain in her joints. She gets a bad tummy, as well, from the methotrexate and typically won't eat for several days (at least more than nibbles, though we usually insist on an apple or something and of course, water). She gets really nervous about her appointments, so today we're going to take her beautiful new teddy bear that our friends, the Sopers lovingly MADE for her! And, we're taking along her medical bag. I think Teddy is in for an arduous appointment via doctor Grace, but she'll make him better! After all, as she tells us, she is training to be an animal rescuer.

Grace, you would make an excellent animal rescuer! We could have used you to rescue the poor dog that landed at our house for a day!
Good luck today. I know these days are especially difficult. Hang in there and know we are thinking of you.
Gracie...go easy on Teddy! He doesn't like shots either!!!!!!
I love and hate seeing these glimpses into your life. I love that you are able to share them and hate seeing it happen to such wonderful people.
Grace, you are far tougher than most, and I believe that you would make a WONDERFUL animal rescuer.
Our prayers are with you!
Poor thing!! She is in our prayers, and Kaelyn has grown very fond of Grace and seeing her on our computer!! I hope that this round can go as well as you wish!! Take care!! Hold tight to that teddy!
Poor Gracie. I cannot imagine a child having to go through such a tortuous thing. I'm interested though about the methotrexate. I work for Rheumatology and we used mtx for rheumatoid arthritis all the time (obviously in smaller doses that the chemo) but I'm surprised it makes her joints ache, I would think it would do the opposite.
Anyway, I love you guys and I think of you guys daily. Give everyone a hug for me. xoxoxoxo
The Methotexate has bothered her quite a bit, but it's the vincristine that really makes her ache. Especially jaw aches and a foot drop.
kim - i am sure your smile is difficult to find sometimes but trust that there is an end to all this madness. continue in your faith. know that you are the greatest mother there is. really. you are.
