Dysfunctionally functioning...

It has been a busy week, but a good one. We can say this, though...after 3 sore throats, 3 runny noses, a few nauseated tummies, one out of order hand, several times catching Eva with marker on her face (only later to find that she had opened the zipper of her jammies and shoved markers in and pulled them out when "convenient", countless sleepless nights with musical beds, one giant cold sore, one VERY low blood count on our little girl, and countless disinfectings of the house to keep Grace healthy...we look the picture of dysfunction. But, we're pretty happy-all in all. It's humorous to see us in all our craziness! It would make for a good comedy show.
Grace had her doctor's appointment on Wednesday and her counts are clear down to 300, from 1, 400 last week, so we'll be around house still until they climb again. Her doctor thinks they could just bottom out, so we're praying that all the sickness that has been entangling our household doesn't get to Gracie or she'll end up back in the hospital. But, so far so good. On a VERY VERY happy note-she has almost made it through Delayed Intensification (only 2 weeks left and those two weeks won't see any chemo because it would send her to the hospital-her counts are just too low). We are so proud of her through all this struggle! It was a VERY hard 8 weeks, but we've almost made it. Now on to Interim Maintenance (8 weeks) and into Maintenance (2 years).

As far as the kids, well-they're funny, resilient, and keeping us very busy. Grace is currently into singing funny songs all over the house. She makes up her own lyrics to random tunes. We also caught her telling Tanner to "just grow up" tonight when he got grossed out looking at JR's finger stitches. I guess Cancer can really toughen the spirit! Tanner is very into setting up lego battles and SO into drawing Star Wars scenes. He is LOVING basketball and acting as JR's other arm lately. Eva has, well, got way too much planning going on in her head. She is dangerously perceptive. She can count to 20, sing the alphabet, say many of her shapes, and actually screams out "WAIT!" when she "borrows" my cell phone and I want it back. It's kind of got us scared for the future!

I am so happy to hear that you guys are almost to maintenance. I have to admit I'm a little jealous too, but mostly happy for you guys. It is amazing what Cancer can do for ones spirit, it definitely toughens them up. I don't think I could ever put up with everything they have had to go through.
I know all too well those crazy times, I can't wait for life to feel normal and boring again. Its crazy how good normal and boring can look after going through all of this. It is what I desire more then anything else; normal and boring. Hopefully one day soon for all of us.

Eva is hilarious! Pulling out pens when no one is around. What a whitty girl. Sorry to hear that Grace's counts are back down. It's the worst time of year to try and stay healthy, isn't it. I'm so happy to hear how you guys just keep a sense of humor about the tough times. We're still rooting for you guys everyday!

I don't know how you are holding yourself together! I thought we were going to die with the colds that have come through OUR house, and that's the least of things on your plate! I'm praying for Grace's numbers to go up, and I'm so glad that the rest of you are still having fun and laughing. :D

Wow, I love how positive you are about your happenings as of late. Cold sores are always the horrifying cherry on top, aren't they? Jerald currently has one, so there's no kissing going on here. I'm glad your sweet little family has each other.

We are soooo sorry to hear you have been through the run of things. We are keeping our fingers crossed for higher numbers and avoiding the common winter colds and hospital for Grace. It is nice to hear Gracie is keeping the family in good spirits through her famous melodies. Tanner is sending warmth with his kindness and good nature. And Ms. Eva is keeping you entertained with her comedic shenanigans. We have our eyes set on sight of the "maintenance time period" for Grace and your whole family. With all that busyness the pendulum of family life just has to be on the movement swinging up for all of you. Many well wishes and blessings are felt and sent to you. Keep hanging in there. You are doing a magnificent job of fighting off the evils of earth. Even in the lowest moments you manage to find the positives. You are such an inspiration that goodness will prevail even in the most difficult and darkest of times. Thinking of you!!! Happy V-Day!!!!! OXOXOXOXOX

p.s. Some fairies have told us a V-Day surprise will be dropped at your home sometime withing the next week. Keep your eyes out for little creatures with fabulous wings.

We miss seeing your cute family at church. But I understand. Try to keep them all in and stay well.
Take care of yourself. You are amazing. I can't wait to get to know you all better when things get a little more better for your family.

I am so glad that we are getting back to normal! WHat is normal? I love to read your inspiring words and funny comments on your life--sounds like you are experiencing some glass slipper moments even though this trial has been difficult. Glass slipper moments are those sweet little moments that touch you when you are going through something like cancer and a finger operation. Jr and Kim--you give me glass slipper moments everytime I talk to you. .thank you so much. Tell Gracie she looks exquisite (that is a fancy word for beautiful)
